Lake Baikal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not only is it the largest natural reservoir of fresh lake water in the world (20% of freshwater comes from here!), but it is also home to many unique, endemic animals and plants. Nevertheless, Lake Baikal's condition is deteriorating from year to year.

Every year we collect and send funds to protect Lake Baikal
Research and protection of Lake Baikal
Our key projects
Continuing the work of "Point No. 1"
The unique scientific project "Point No. 1" is dedicated to the ecological monitoring of Lake Baikal. For more than 75 years, scientists have been taking water samples every one to two weeks from different depths of the lake to analyze its composition. Over the years, the team has rotated several generations of staff, and the number of records describing the condition of Lake Baikal has exceeded 5 million.

Annual donations: 1.5 million rubles.
Funding the Baikal Initiative
Grant competition for young scientists of the Baikal region who are solving ecological problems of Lake Baikal. Since 2017, grants of 1,000,000 rubles have been awarded annually. In 2022, the "Baikal Initiative", a new program for the conservation of rare and endemic species of the Baikal natural area, was launched as a continuation.

Annual donations: 1 million rubles.
Support "Baikal without Fishing Nets"
Grant competition for young scientists of the Baikal region who are solving ecological problems of Lake Baikal. Since 2017, grants of 1,000,000 rubles have been awarded annually. In 2022, the "Baikal Initiative", a new program for the conservation of rare and endemic species of the Baikal natural area, was launched as a continuation.

Annual donations: 1.6 million rubles.
Eco-education on Lake Baikal
Many people simply do not think about the fact that even the smallest actions can cause great damage to nature. This is why eco-education is so important. Online lessons and teaching materials about the environment contribute to the preservation of the unique Baikal ecosystem. Outdoor activities for children and teens are designed to get them interested in environmental issues and inspire a love of nature.

Annual donations: 1.1 million rubles.
Keep national parks clean
The project is aimed at systematically solving the problem of household waste in the national parks around Lake Baikal and developing a system of responsible tourism.
In 2022, the project is being successfully implemented in three national parks: Zabaikalsky (Republic of Buryatia), Pribaikalsky (Irkutsk Region) and Chikoi Park (Zabaikalsky Krai). These areas are equipped with containers for separate waste collection and a chain of collection of recyclable materials.

Annual donations: 1.1 million rubles.
Experts say
"Baikal is a recognized treasure of nature, but the attitude to the lake remains consumptive. As if people are testing its endurance. We strive to make it a real value, a point of growth of ecological consciousness in Russia’s residents."
Anastasia Tsvetkova,
Director of the Lake Baikal Foundation, speaker on environmental and sociopolitical topics at Russian and international forums.
Maxim Timofeev,
Doctor of Biological Sciences, Director of the Research Institute of Biology at Irkutsk State University.
“Point No. 1” is a unique program of long-term environmental monitoring of Lake Baikal. Only thanks to such long-term observations, conducted over decades, is it possible to identify important trends related to changes in Lake Baikal’s condition."
Elena Vokina,
Deputy Head of Department for Recreation and Tourism Development Department in Federal State Budgetary Institution “Zapovednoye Podlemorye”.
"Every year, irresponsible tourists create spontaneous dumpsites, which cause the degradation of ecosystems all around Lake Baikal. The project "National parks without garbage" is aimed at reforming the system of waste management on the principle of "leaving nothing behind," which is innovative for Specially protected natural areas (PAs) of Russia."
  • We develop educational environmental programs for visitors, employees of national parks and reserves on Lake Baikal, as well as local residents.

  • We create an inclusive and accessible educational environment.

  • We promote a responsible and caring attitude toward the nature of Lake Baikal.
